DescriptionDaienji Temple enshrines the Jinkotsu Jizo-son, a Life-Prolonging Jizo standing more than four meters high. The temple's third-generation priest, Shingan, is said to have created it out of compassion for unclaimed dead by crushing their bones and mixing them into its coating. Daienji began in 1624 when the priest Gyo-yo Zehaku built a humble hermitage to memorialize his father, who had died in the Summer Siege of Osaka. Viewing the Jizo inside the temple requires an advance reservation and an admission fee.
