DescriptionShogakuin Temple preserves this wooden seated Amida Nyorai from the late Heian period. The 110 cm image is made of hinoki cypress using joined-block construction, with carved eyes and a crystal urna. Its calm, refined expression gives the figure a serene and graceful presence. It originally served as the principal image of the lecture hall at Keta Daijinguji and was transferred to Shogakuin following the separation of Buddhism and Shinto in 1868. It is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Indoor visits require reservations, and the cultural properties are not always on display, so the statue's availability should be confirmed in advance.
