DescriptionA standing Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai worshipped as the principal image of Akebisan Senkoji Temple. Long revered as a Buddha to whom people pray for recovery from illness, the temple's official website states that the image is unveiled for worship only once every 17 years. Senkoji is a Koyasan Shingon temple traditionally founded in 728, and its grounds also enshrine a Hakuju Kannon of the Hokuriku pilgrimage and a city-designated standing Amida image. This secret Buddha continues to be preserved in an active place of prayer, with worshippers awaiting the rare opportunity to encounter the principal image directly.
