DescriptionA wooden standing Thousand-Armed Kannon Bosatsu enshrined as the principal image of Senjuji Temple. Its gentle face, lightly opened narrow eyes, and soft body contours suggest a date from the Fujiwara period to the early Kamakura period. The drapery shows Song-dynasty influence, while the circular halo is considered a Kamakura-period work. The statue is designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Toyama Prefecture. Senjuji's Kannon has long been worshipped for prayers including safety at sea and good relationships, and the temple still welcomes many worshippers during the annual Kannon Festival, known as the Marumage Festival, on April 17, when anyone may enter the Kannon Hall to pray.
