DescriptionA standing Idaten enshrined at the front of the Daikuri at Zuiryuji Temple. The temple's official information says that the image is traditionally attributed to Fan Daosheng, a Chinese-born sculptor associated with the Obaku school. Idaten is a deva who protects the Buddhist teachings and temple precincts and is famous as a swift guardian, giving rise to the Japanese expression 'Idaten-bashiri' for running at great speed. Zuiryuji reflects the influence of Obaku culture in the early Edo period, and this image is one of the temple's notable traces of that exchange. Toyama's official tourism site also introduces it at the front of the Daikuri along the regular visitor route, so it can be worshipped during normal temple opening hours.
