DescriptionSenkoji Temple preserves a wooden seated Jizo Bosatsu known as Enmei Jizo. Measuring 140.1 cm high, it is a late-Heian-period Shizuoka Prefectural Tangible Cultural Property made from joined cypress wood, hollowed inside, with carved eyes and coloring. The figure lowers its left leg and holds a jewel and staff. An inscription copied during a 1578 repair preserves a record dated 1160 and is thought to transmit the substance of the original dedicatory inscription. Its large head, broad shoulders, and lively drapery show regional characteristics, making it a valuable late-Heian example whose approximate production date can be established. Shizuoka Prefecture lists it as open to the public with viewing available at any time.
