DescriptionEnshrined inside a shrine cabinet in Daizenji Temple’s Main Hall, this wooden triad consists of Yakushi Nyorai flanked by Nikko and Gakko Bosatsu. All three were made from cherry wood using single-block construction in the early Heian period. The central Yakushi has a relatively large head and powerful arms drawn close to the body, while the two attendants have well-balanced figures and calm faces. Designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan, the images are normally kept hidden and can be worshipped during an unveiling held once every five years.
