DescriptionThis stone seated Jizo Bosatsu is enshrined in the Jizodo Hall of Entakuji Temple and is affectionately known as Yakuyoke Jizoson, the Jizo who wards off misfortune. Kofu City describes the principal image as a stone statue about 1.5 m tall, modeled after Kobo Daishi and made in the Muromachi period; it is a Yamanashi Prefectural Cultural Property. The nationally designated Important Cultural Property Jizodo Hall was built as a protective structure around the image. Every year from noon on February 13 to noon on February 14, large numbers of worshippers visit for the Yakuyoke Jizoson Festival, based on the belief that the Jizo listens to people’s wishes during this period.
