DescriptionTwelve wooden Divine Generals are enshrined in Daizenji Temple’s National Treasure Yakushido Hall. Made in the Kamakura period, they are attributed to the Buddhist sculptor Renkei. The figures stand about 138–146 cm tall and were made from hinoki cypress using both single-block and joined-block construction techniques, with crystal eyes. Each armored figure carries a weapon and has a distinct expression, from wide-open mouths to intensely staring eyes. Designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan, they can be viewed during regular temple hours, unlike the secret principal Yakushi Triad.
