DescriptionThese cliff-carved images of Jizo Bosatsu and Monju Bosatsu are cut into the massive rocks of Seiunji Temple’s stone garden. Koshu City introduces them as the only Buddhist cliff carvings in Yamanashi Prefecture, and they are designated cultural properties of the prefecture. Carved into natural boulders, the two figures have remained in the temple’s Zen garden through centuries of exposure to wind and rain. A marked route through the garden also passes meditation stones and Marishiten Hall. Reaching the carvings involves a steep mountain path, so suitable walking shoes are recommended.
