DescriptionThis wooden seated Aizen Myoo is preserved at Hokoji Temple. Made from hinoki cypress using joined-block construction, the 89.1 cm image has three eyes and six arms, with two arms drawing a bow and arrow in the distinctive form known as Tenkyu Aizen Myoo. An Important Cultural Property of Japan, it reflects the En school style of the late 12th century and is introduced by the temple as Japan’s oldest Buddhist statue of the Tenkyu Aizen type. Hokoji accepts visitors every day to view its principal image and cultural properties, accompanied by a guide.
