DescriptionOn a hill in Osarushi, Otofuke, stands the golden Tokachi Jibo Kannon, approximately 25 meters tall. It was erected in August 1982 to console the spirits of the pioneers who developed Tokachi and to pray for social renewal, the healthy growth of young people, and peace in the local community. Rising above the broad Tokachi landscape, the statue has a scale and setting that feel distinctly Hokkaido, and visitors can approach its base and look directly up at it. A 2024 on-site report found the grounds unattended but open to worship, and the current caretaker confirmed that the statue underwent a major complete repainting in 2023. Deep snow can make the approach inaccessible in winter, so snow-free seasons are best.
