DescriptionThe hidden principal image of Usu Zenkoji is an Amida Nyorai statue created by the monk Teiden, head priest of Hongakuji Temple in Tsugaru, and donated in 1716. The temple’s historical account identifies it as the present principal image, normally kept hidden. The autumn equinox Segaki services are described as the only annual unveiling, and general visitors may participate in the services held from September 22 to 24. The statue remains at the center of worship at this temple, one of the Three Government Temples of Ezo.
