DescriptionEnshrined in the Main Hall of Tojuin, one of the Three Government Temples of Ezo established by the Edo shogunate in 1806, this wooden Sho Kannon Bosatsu is estimated to date from the Kamakura period and is designated a Cultural Property of Samani Town. Hokkaido Hidaka Tourism and the Mt. Apoi Geopark introduce it as one of the temple’s valuable Buddhist images. It remains an object of worship today. Visitors may request free viewing at the temple residence between 9:00 and 17:00, although viewing may be unavailable during Buddhist services or other circumstances.
