DescriptionThis 162.1 cm wooden standing Shaka Nyorai is housed in the treasure museum of Usu Zenkoji Temple. Made of joined cypress wood, it is regarded as a Seiryoji-style copy of the National Treasure standing Shaka Nyorai at Seiryoji Temple in Kyoto and is designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Hokkaido. The temple describes it as an early Kamakura-period work, while Japan’s Cultural Heritage Online notes that its production date and transmission are not securely established. The museum is open by advance reservation from 9:00 to 17:00.
