DescriptionThe Great Buddha Hall at Junenji Temple enshrines a large seated Amida Nyorai known locally as the “Shusse Daibutsu.” The Zenkoji-kai temple guide describes it as a traditional joroku-scale monumental image measuring about 5 meters from the pedestal to the top of the halo. Located roughly midway along the approach connecting Nagano Station and Zenkoji Temple, it is easy to visit together with a Zenkoji pilgrimage. Temple tradition says Junenji was founded in the Kenkyu era with Minamoto no Yoritomo as its founder, and it remains an active local temple today. The temple grounds may be visited freely and there is no admission fee.
