DescriptionSenkoji is the 23rd temple of the Kanbara Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage, and its principal image is a Thousand-Armed Kannon Bosatsu. Shibata City states that the image is unveiled once a year on February 17. City materials relate that the temple was founded by Gyoki in the Tenpyo era and was originally called Kannonji. Although the principal image is not normally displayed, its fixed annual unveiling makes this secret image relatively easy to plan a visit around. The temple remains a distinctive local Kannon sanctuary preserving the living tradition of the Kanbara pilgrimage.
