DescriptionKezoin Temple now houses a set of twelve Divine Generals carved by Mokujiki Shonin and owned by Saikoji Temple. Created in 1805, when Mokujiki was 88, the group is regarded as one of the representative works of his late period and depicts the twelve guardians of Yakushi Nyorai in his distinctive style. The statues were discovered in 1929 in the roof space above the ceiling of Saikoji's main hall during roof repairs and were later designated Cultural Properties of Kashiwazaki City. They remained at Saikoji until November 2019 and have since been transferred to Kezoin in Shiiya. This rare complete group preserves twelve late works by Mokujiki together in one place.
