Description

Midama Fudoson is a Tendai Buddhist sanctuary at the entrance to Akiyamago in the village of Midama. The Fudo Hall at the top of the stone steps enshrines the Five Great Wisdom Kings, said to have been brought from Mount Hiei during the Sengoku period, and the interior is arranged so that general visitors may enter and worship freely. The Nio Gate is guarded by muscular Kongo Rikishi statues about 2.5 m tall. The grounds also contain Rokujizo, Kannon images and a Daikokudo Hall, while clear water cascades beside the stone steps. The Tsunan Tourism Association lists the site as open year-round, free and without a regular closing day, with some facilities closed in winter. The combination of Buddhist images, waterfalls and cedar trees remains a powerful setting for living devotion.
