DescriptionIn the grounds of Hibiri Kannon, beside the Narita Kaido, stands the Kubimagari Jizo, a Jizo image with its head turned to one side. Abiko City's official tourism site presents the statue as an embodiment of local traditions rooted in the Hibiri area's deep reverence for Taira no Masakado: it is said to turn its face away from Naritasan Shinshoji, where prayers were offered for Masakado's subjugation. The city's tourism site affectionately calls the statue "Pui-chan." Because it stands beside the road, it can be worshipped year-round. The image is distinctive for the way its physical pose itself expresses a local story of faith.
