Description

Nakazato Yakushido preserves a complete ensemble consisting of a Yakushi Triad—Yakushi Nyorai flanked by Nikko Bodhisattva and Gakko Bodhisattva—and the Twelve Divine Generals associated with the twelve zodiac signs. Designated as a cultural property by Abiko City, the group is described by the city as a very rare example in which the full triad and all twelve guardian figures have survived together. Based on their style, the statues are thought to date from the late Edo period and have long been worshipped and cared for by the local community. The Yakushi Triad is normally kept hidden and is unveiled each year on February 11. After a conservation program begun in fiscal 2015, all twelve guardian figures were shown together in 2020, and an unveiling ceremony was also held on February 11, 2026. The complete arrangement of the triad and Twelve Divine Generals makes this a visually distinctive Buddhist ensemble.
