DescriptionThe Peace Kannon stands on Kannon-dai in Yokote Park. It was erected as a memorial to the war dead and as a prayer for peace through the cooperation of the Yokote City Bereaved Families Association, the city social welfare council, the local Buddhist association, and members of the public. Carved in granite by stone sculptor Ishida Kansen of Okazaki, the statue measures 4.78 m including the lotus pedestal and stands on a 2.37 m natural-stone base. Completed in November 1965, it remains a familiar landmark in Yokote Park, which occupies the former site of Yokote Castle.
