Description

Yudonosan Ryusenji Temple preserves a wooden standing Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu attributed to an early phase in the career of Enku, the itinerant monk and sculptor of the Edo period. The bold, visible chisel marks and simple yet powerful form are characteristic of Enku's Buddhist sculpture. The statue is designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Akita Prefecture. Ryusenji also preserves other important Buddhist images, including a gilt-bronze standing Yakushi Nyorai from the Kamakura period.
