Description

Shin-Yakushi-ji was founded in 747 by Empress Kōmyō in prayer for Emperor Shōmu’s recovery from illness. Its National Treasure main hall contains a circular earthen platform with a National Treasure seated Yakushi Nyorai at the center, surrounded by the Twelve Divine Generals—eleven ancient National Treasure statues and one later replacement. The calm strength of the Medicine Buddha and the fierce guardians create one of Nara’s most concentrated spaces of prayer for healing, guidance, and protection.
