Description

Soganji, known as Fudogaoka Fudoson, is counted among the Three Great Fudo temples of the Kanto region and is Temple No. 30 of the Kanto Thirty-Six Fudo Pilgrimage. Its principal Fudo Myo-o is enshrined in the Fudo Hall and is normally hidden from view, but the temple’s official annual calendar states that it is unveiled every December 8 during the traditional Susu-tori cleaning ceremony. Kazo City records that the present wooden Fudo Hall was completed in 1844. With active goma rites, Setsubun ceremonies and a fire-walking festival, the temple remains a major center of Fudo devotion, and the clearly established annual unveiling offers a rare chance to worship the principal image itself.
