Description

Shojoin Temple preserves two wooden seated statues of Amida Tathagata, both designated Tangible Cultural Properties by Koshigaya City. One is a 62 cm joined-wood image dating from the late Fujiwara period to the early Kamakura period. The other is a 60 cm single-block sculpture from the Heian period. The chance to compare two Amida images from different periods and construction traditions is a distinctive feature of this site. Koshigaya City has held public unveilings around the spring equinox period in recent years, with official records confirming openings every year from 2022 through 2025.
