DescriptionThe principal Fudo Myoo of Daisho Gokokuji Temple was donated by Keishoin, mother of the fifth Tokugawa shogun Tsunayoshi. During restoration, an ink inscription inside the image stating that it had been donated by Keishoin revealed its provenance. The temple is also carrying out the “Reiwa Great Restoration” of 41 images donated by Keishoin—the Five Great Wisdom Kings and the Thirty-Six Attendant Boys of Fudo—and restored images can be viewed in the main hall. At this temple with more than 800 years of history, visitors can encounter the principal image together with several restored Buddhist statues. Visiting days are Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 16:00, with free admission.
