DescriptionKangiten, commonly called Shoten-sama, is a hidden image enshrined in Shoten Hall at Shimotsuke Daishi Kezoji Temple. The temple’s official website states that the image is unveiled only once a year during the Shoten Festival held on the fourth Sunday of August. In 2026 the festival is held on August 23, with worship from 10:00 to 15:00 and prayer services at 11:00 and 13:30. Although normally hidden from view, the official opening date and hours are clearly announced, giving general visitors a once-a-year opportunity to worship this deva.
