DescriptionSeisenji Temple enshrines a wooden standing Amida Nyorai as its principal image. Tochigi Prefecture describes it as an 86.2 cm-high raigo-style image made of hinoki cypress using split-and-joined single-block construction, with crystal eyes, gold pigment on the flesh, and lacquer-gilt robes. Its rounded shoulders, calm expression, small spiral curls, and shallow drapery folds date it stylistically to the mid-12th century in the Heian period. Records inside the image document repairs in 1451 and 1601; the halo bears a 1662 inscription naming the Buddhist sculptor Ukon, and documents inside the statue include a record from 1694. It was designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Tochigi Prefecture in 1994, and its access status is listed as viewable with advance confirmation required.
