Description

This Bishamonten image is enshrined at Matsuchiyama Shoden Honryuin, a subtemple of Senso-ji. According to Taito City’s official tourism information, it is a dignified wooden image enshrined as an attendant to the principal deity, Daisho Kangiten. Matsuchiyama Shoden is known for Shoden devotion symbolized by daikon radishes and drawstring pouches, and the yokuyu-ku (ritual oil-bathing offering) for Daisho Kangiten is performed in the Main Hall every morning. Bishamonten is also worshipped as one of the Asakusa Seven Lucky Gods, making this an easy Buddhist image to visit together with sightseeing in Asakusa. The hall is open from 6:00 to 16:30 year-round.
