DescriptionThe “Onegai Fudoson” enshrined in the Former Main Hall of Naritasan Tokyo Betsuin Fukagawa Fudodo is one of Japan’s largest wooden Fudo images. It was carved from a sacred camphor tree more than 500 years old that grew in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, and stands 1 jo 8 shaku high. Visitors can normally worship it inside the hall. On the 15th of every month, special worship is held after the 11:00, 13:00, and 15:00 goma fire rituals, and after the service visitors may directly touch the Fudoson. Its major appeal is the rare chance to encounter a monumental wooden Fudo Myoo at close range in central Tokyo and, on specified days, to pray while touching the image itself. Fukagawa Fudodo is open from 8:00 to 18:00, and admission is free.
