DescriptionThe Shiofune Peace Kannon Statue stands at the summit of the azalea garden at Shiofune Kannonji Temple. This 13-meter-tall Great Kannon was erected in 2010 as a commemorative project for the temple’s 1,350th anniversary. The right hand forms the abhaya mudra, the left the boon-granting mudra, and the figure tilts a water vessel, expressing the bestowal of Kannon’s great compassion upon all beings. Overlooking the temple grounds from the hilltop, the statue is one of the temple’s representative objects of worship. Visitors may approach and worship it during visitor hours; an admission fee is required during the paid azalea-viewing period.
