Description

The principal image of Kanzeji Temple, known for the legend of the Adachigahara ogress, is Nyoirin Kanzeon Bosatsu. The temple's official information presents prayers to the principal image for protection from misfortune, health, household safety, prosperity in business, and other wishes. On the third Sunday of every April, the Kannon Festival is held to express gratitude to Kanzeon Bosatsu and pray for continued protection. The grounds contain a cave where the ogress is said to have lived and the "Pool of Blood," while nearby remains Kurozuka, said to be her grave. This distinctive sacred place brings together legend and Kannon devotion. It is normally open to visitors from 9:00 to 16:00 for a fee and welcomes tourists.
