DescriptionShounji Temple, located in the mountains of Higashiyama in Aizuwakamatsu City, offers a pilgrimage around Thirty-Three Kannon images within its grounds. Aizuwakamatsu Tourism Navi introduces the temple as a site with a Buddha Hall, Zen Hall, Higashiyama Art Museum, and Higashiyama Buddhist Statue Hall, where visitors can make a circuit of the Thirty-Three Kannon. The temple's principal image is Shakyamuni Buddha. It was founded in 1562 (Eiroku 5) and moved from Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, to its present location in 1984 (Showa 59). In the quiet setting of this mountain temple, visitors can worship while walking among multiple Kannon images.
