DescriptionThe principal image of Kamiunai Yakushido Hall is a wooden seated Yakushi Nyorai counted among the Five Yakushi of Aizu. The statue is 183 cm high and carved from a single block of zelkova wood; Aizubange Town dates it to the 10th century based on features including its gentle expression. It is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Also enshrined in the hall are standing statues of Nikko and Gakko Bosatsu, Hoko Kokuzo Bosatsu, Sho-Kannon Bosatsu, and five figures of the Twelve Divine Generals. The hall can normally be visited by reservation between 10:00 and 16:00, offering an opportunity to encounter the ancient Yakushi faith of Aizu through the original image.
