DescriptionEnshrined in the Gohoden Hall at Seibien, a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty in Hirakawa City, is Kongokai Dainichi Nyorai. Aomori Prefecture's official tourism site introduces the image as a Kamakura-period sculpture. The Gohoden Hall was built in 1917, and its ten-tatami interior is covered in gold leaf, allowing visitors to view Dainichi Nyorai together with large-scale maki-e lacquer decoration by lacquer artist Kawamo Tozan. During the regular operating season, the Gohoden Hall is still opened once every 30 minutes, making this a rare publicly accessible Buddhist spot in Aomori where visitors can come specifically to see an old Buddhist image along with the garden.
