DescriptionThe seated Kannon Bosatsu at Fukushoji Temple is a Sotogahama Town-designated cultural property carved by Enku in the early Edo period. Sotogahama Town introduces it as a work carved in Kanbun 6 (1666) after Enku returned from Ezo. Its single-knife carving combines rough, vigorous cutting with delicate expression. Because local residents affectionately called it “Kochokocho-sama,” wear can be seen across the entire statue, itself conveying a long history of devotion. The statue remains enshrined at Fukushoji Temple in Tairadate, and advance inquiry is required to view this Enku image.
