DescriptionThis seated wooden Amida Nyorai is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property believed to date from the late Heian period. The life-size statue is made of joined hinoki cypress blocks, finished with lacquer and gold leaf, and forms the jo-in mudra. Its calm, well-proportioned expression preserves the late-Heian style. It is said to have been made around Kyoto and transferred from Kyoto's Shojoke-in in 1686. It is one of only two nationally designated Important Cultural Property sculptures in Aomori Prefecture. Advance application is required for viewing.
