Description

The Showa Daibutsu at Seiryuji Temple is a 21.35-meter-high bronze seated statue of Dainichi Nyorai erected in 1984 (Showa 59), and is said to be the largest seated bronze Buddha statue in Japan. Wearing a jeweled crown and ornamental necklaces and forming the Hokkai-join meditation mudra, it represents Dainichi Nyorai of the Womb Realm (Taizokai). It was erected in prayer for the repose of those who died in war, for world peace, and for the flourishing of Buddhist teachings. As the central object of worship on the temple grounds, it is open to general visitors during temple opening hours.
