Description

Dainenji, a Jodo-shu temple in central Otsuchi, enshrines an Amida Triad. The central Amida Nyorai is regarded as a Kamakura-period image and has a clear, refined form. Kannon Bosatsu and Seishi Bosatsu stand to either side; although small, their pedestals are carefully crafted. The Main Hall also preserves statues of Shandao and Honen made in 1794 by Yasuoka Ryoun, a Buddhist sculptor from Ningyocho in Edo, making this one of the few temples where an Amida Triad and the two patriarchs of Pure Land Buddhism can be viewed together. Interior viewing remains possible when someone is at the temple, and advance contact is recommended for visitors coming specifically for the Buddhist images.
