DescriptionThe Ohasama Local Culture Preservation and Training Center permanently displays the standing Four Heavenly Kings once preserved at former Take Myosenji Temple, a major center of Hayachine worship. Created in the Edo period, the statues are designated Tangible Cultural Properties of Hanamaki City and survived even after Take Myosenji was abolished during the Meiji-era separation of Shinto and Buddhism and anti-Buddhist destruction. Take Myosenji is traditionally said to have been founded as a Shingon temple in 1325 and later received protection as a prayer temple of the Nanbu lords of Morioka, playing a central role in devotion to Mt. Hayachine. Today visitors can see the Four Heavenly Kings together with kagura-related materials, offering a distinctive encounter with both the syncretic Shinto-Buddhist world behind Hayachine Kagura and Buddhist images that survived the haibutsu kishaku movement.
