DescriptionOsorezan’s Main Hall, or Bodaido, enshrines Shakyamuni Buddha as its principal image. While Jizoden stands at the center of prayer within the sacred site, the Main Hall supports memorial rites such as offerings of memorial tablets for the deceased. Photographs, personal belongings and dolls are also placed inside, quietly bringing together the memories of the dead and the feelings of those left behind. In a form distinct from Osorezan’s stark volcanic landscape, the hall conveys a deep atmosphere of remembrance.
