Description

The Main Hall of sacred Mount Osore, also called Bodai-dō, enshrines Shaka Nyorai (Shakyamuni Buddha) as the principal image of Osorezan Bodai-ji as a Sōtō Zen temple. Memorial services for the dead, including offerings of wooden memorial tablets, are performed here. Shelves inside hold portraits, clothing, personal belongings, and bridal or groom dolls offered by grieving families. Originally a martial-arts training hall and relocated after the war, the building quietly gathers the memories of the dead and the feelings of those who remain.
