Description

Located on the slopes of Aobayama in Sendai, this temple is the Sendai branch of Naritasan Shinshoji and belongs to the Chizan school of Shingon Buddhism. The Main Hall enshrines Fudo Myoo brought from Naritasan Shinshoji, while the rooftop observation deck features a monumental 16.5-meter Fudo Myoo statue. Holding a sword and lasso, the powerful figure embodies the Wisdom King’s severity and compassion in cutting through worldly attachments and protecting and guiding people. With views over Sendai, visitors can experience both the tradition of goma fire rituals and the commanding presence of the giant image.
