DescriptionGanjoji’s Amida Hall enshrines an Amida Triad known as the Aizu Daibutsu. The central Amida Nyorai bears a large boat-shaped halo and is flanked by Kannon and Seishi Bosatsu. While the large image has the dignity of a monumental Buddha preserved in Aizu, it also conveys the peace of Amida devotion that welcomes beings into the Pure Land. It is one of Aizu’s representative Buddhist images, expressing the depth of Pure Land faith rooted in the region.
