DescriptionGanjō-ji’s Amida Hall, also known as the Great Buddha Hall, houses the Important Cultural Property Amida Triad called the Great Buddha of Aizu. The central seated Amida Buddha is 2.41 meters high and backed by a gilded boat-shaped halo filled with a thousand small Buddha images. Kannon Bodhisattva presents a lotus seat on the right, while Seishi Bodhisattva joins the palms in prayer on the left. Created in the early Kamakura period, the rare northern example of this welcoming triad combines monumental dignity with the reassurance of Amida receiving beings into the Pure Land.
