DescriptionShōren-in Monzeki’s Shijōkō-dō enshrines Shijōkō Nyorai (Tejaprabha Buddha). The hidden principal image is a seed-syllable mandala, about two meters square, with the Sanskrit syllable representing the Buddha at its center; regular worship is offered before an omaedachi image. Shōren-in is said to be the only temple in Japan with Shijōkō Nyorai as its principal deity. Within the refined dignity of this imperial monzeki temple, visitors can sense the depth of esoteric prayers for pacifying calamities and restoring peace.
