Description

Kunomoto Kannon Hall in Nagai is the fifth temple of the Okitama 33 Kannon Pilgrimage. Its principal image is a standing Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu about 1.5 meters tall, traditionally said to have been carved from a sacred tree by Dengyo Daishi during the Heian period. After the hall was destroyed by fire, the image is said to have been discovered among the ruins, and it has been worshiped as a Kannon who wards off epidemics and misfortune and brings good fortune. In the quiet cedar-shaded grounds, visitors can feel Kannon’s compassion and the protective force of prayers that have survived disaster.
