DescriptionKaramatsu Kannon Hall at Karamatsuyama Gokokuji is the fifth temple of the Mogami 33 Kannon Pilgrimage. Projecting from a mountainside, it is the only hall of its kind in Yamagata Prefecture built in the kakezukuri cliff-supported style, recalling the stage of Kiyomizudera in Kyoto. Its principal image is Sho Kannon Bosatsu, traditionally attributed to Kobo Daishi. From the vermilion hall overlooking Yamagata City, visitors can feel Kannon’s gentleness and the quiet devotion preserved in the mountains.
