DescriptionDaishoji is an ancient temple of the Chisan school of Shingon Buddhism and the home of Kameoka Monju, counted among Japan’s Three Great Monju sanctuaries. Temple tradition holds that its hidden Monju Bosatsu was brought from Mount Wutai in China and transferred here by the monk Tokuitsu in 807. Revered as the “Living Monju,” the deity grants wisdom, happiness, success in examinations, and accomplishment in learning. Beyond the stone-paved approach shaded by ancient cedars, the hall combines intellectual clarity with the quiet authority of a temple long honored as an imperial place of prayer.
